Frequently Asked Questions

3 and 1/2 hours to learn piano? How do I know this isn't a scam?

I taught the Instant Piano workshop for 30 years, reaching over 25,000 students in total at almost 100 colleges and universities. If this were a scam, the colleges would have fired me years ago. But it’s been just the opposite. Post workshop evaluations were consistently glowing..

What’s the cost for the workshop?

The cost is currently priced at $47. We cannot guarantee that it will stay at this low cost into the future. We reserve the right to increase the price anytime.

Why so cheap? What’s the catch?

It is our mission to reach as many people as possible so they can enjoy playing the piano. We do have other courses that you can continue, should you choose to. But there’s no obligation whatsoever. You can take this course and go on your merry way.

What do I expect to learn in 3 hours?

In the first 15 minutes, we will cover the essentials of reading music. Just the essentials. Then we explore what most music teachers will never cover: How to use chord symbols. It’s much much easier than learning how to read. We will look at how chords are formed and how to use them to create music.

You will learn how to play any kind of music except classical. Now that you can choose your own music to play, you will have the motivation to keep exploring. It’s the beginning of a path that will never end.

Is this going to work for someone older like me?

I would say the majority of my students were over 50. And as old as 85. I had a student once, age 80 who attended my workshop 10 years earlier. He told the class that thanks to the Instant Piano Workshop he was playing piano consistently every week.

I tried piano lessons in the past. It didn’t work for me. What makes you think this will work?

The honest answer to that question is: we don’t know. Every one is different, so I can’t guarantee this will work for you. We have a very liberal return policy, which we stand behind. But we seldom have to use.

How much practice is required?

How serious do you want to be? You make the call.

I don’t have a piano or keyboard. What should I buy?

There are a few options for this. You can look at online market places like Amazon and find one there. You can also look at your local advertising sites like craigslist.com (in US). In the near future we will have a page dedicated to our recommendations. Stay tuned.

Can I use this method to play classical music too?

No. And yes. In this workshop you will learn the method learned and played by professionals. It involves using chords in one hand and simple one note melodies in the other. And it’s suitable for almost all pop music.

But classical music uses much of the same principles. And these days you can find music books that use our system, but for classical music pieces. Warning: Don’t try this at Carnegie Hall. But it’s fun anyway. So we’ll say “yes.”

Do I need any experience to attend the workshop?

We start at the beginning and assume no previous training.

Why is it better to learn piano this way instead of the note reading way?

The old note-reading way is difficult, takes years to master, is only appropriate for classical music, and will cost you a fortune if you take private lessons. Our method is appropriate for pop music and is compatible with improvising (which we teach), playing by Ear (which we teach), the Blues (which we teach), playing solo (which we teach) playing in a band (which we teach), and accompanying singers (which we teach).

Why don’t traditional piano teachers teach piano this way?

Traditional piano teachers tend to learn piano from other traditional teachers. And so on, up the line. Many music teachers are happy to teach you the classical style, because that’s all they know. We like all kinds of music, and we’re happy to show you the Instant Piano system and leave the classical teaching to the scholars.

Can I return the workshop for a refund?

Yes, if it’s within our refund policy. Please send an email to support@instantpiano.com. If you’re not happy, we don’t want your money.

How can I contact support?
